Model S, Best Selling Large Luxury Car in America

During 2013, the Tesla Model S is the top selling large luxury car in America. That's according to this TMC blogger:

http://www.teslamotorsclub.com/entry.php/75-Tesla-Model-S-The-1-quot-Lar...

The author compared to Audi A8, BMW 6-Series, BMW 7-Series, Jaguar XJ, Lexus LS, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and Porsche Panamera.

Including Cadillac's XTS, Model S is #2 or maybe #1.

Amazing.

Not possible. No one wants an electric car. They are a fad. Only early adopters will ever buy one. (that was very sarcastic)

How cool is that?

TM is now shipping 500/week, or more than 2.000 cars a month. If that keeps up, it will actually best the MB S class, BMW 7, Audi A8, and Porsche Panamera.

To beat all these well-established players with TM's first mass production car?

Frigg'n Amazing.

It actually makes sense though. If you've got the bucks, can any of us imagine ever spending 100k on a gasoline car again, now that MS technology is available?

You go Tesla. The first "mass market" large luxury car? Could be :)

A BMW 7, like a Model S, is a mass-production car - meaning tooled-up for factory production. By contrast, the TM roadster was more of a handcrafted car.

At 70-100K, we're not yet in mass-market territory.

I don't care if they make 5 thousand MS or 5 million MS a year, as long TM can produce and sell it for profit. That would change the perception of the industry that doesn't believe you can make EV for profit.

I think they needed less than 10K a year to break even, so their business model should be on very solid ground now.

Now if only TM can "up-size" its delivery and service arms to cope with that volume. Managing a large customer/user base is a whole different ball game from the personal hand-built Roadster market. As TM is discovering.
