* = On March 1, 2011, a Tesla member posted, "Got the following info from Tesla some days ago: In Europe they have reduced the Signature down to 500 and approximately 70 have been reserved." While 55 is a confirmed/posted reservation number from this forum, the 70 has yet to be verified by the actual European reservation holder.

I have not recived any confirmation # by mail. Paid my €30K a month ago. Logging into my page at teslamotors.com I see my # as S 52, I don not know if that is Europe or just Norway

Yow. A lot of new Signature reservations in the last few months. In the US, I was sequence number 101 at the end of January, three months later there are over 200? I guess I jumped in at the right time.

@psirnes -

My speculation is the S52 is for Europe. Many European members commented their reservation numbers have moved up in order over the last several weeks.

Just received confirmation of our Model S reservation (U.S. "P") number 3679 (made Saturday morning somewhere between Bloody Mary #2 and Bloody Mary #3). In any case, very excited, even though we are probably looking at late 2012, at the earliest.

Gaining some steam now on reservations. Close to 200 per month. However, I'm surprised that folks would deposit $40K for the Signature, without a mention of the price or Options list. I wonder how many "Gen Prod" reservation holders will upgrade to the "Signature" when pricing and options (for the Sig.) are revealed? If the price is close enough (<$5K) to the Gen. Production 300mi car, I might upgrade too. But cannot evaluate now, and $40K is a lot to tie up for a year. Anybody agree with me?

^^^

Yes, I want to upgrade too, but too hazy on the specs/price to put up $40k for a year.

I don't think getting it a few months earlier would be worth it for me. I'm still waiting to see if/when the charging infrastructure (specifically high speed charging that would let you recharge a 300 mile pack in under 2 hours) becomes available. If only level II charging is available, a 300 mile pack wouldn't probably be worth it for me.

I got my reservation # yesterday, Canada P104

I made a €30K payment for a signature S on March 31st. Did not recieve any email with a prduciton number, but according to my homepage on teslamotors.com I am assigned #S 52 in Europe so this is about where the current EU list is for the Signature. Regards from Son, NOrway, waiting for a new experience in driving in 2012/13

Thanks @psirnes

@David M. and @qwk-
I decided to upgrade from a general production to a Signature based on the following: 1) a Tesla Representative conveyed a Signature would be in the neighborhood of $80K 2) I always wanted to purchase a 300 mile range general production and 3) most importantly) I had the $35K.

In short, if you look at the Roadster "Design Studio," I believe that will give you a basic idea (my words not Tesla's words) of the pricing possibilities in the Model S. I venture to guess the Model S will be the 300 mile pack with 10K of options, which will most likely include:
1) a high-end infotainment center (yes, the 17' touch screen is standard, but I believe there will be a high-end infotainment center-too many possibilities and profit opportunities for multiple infotainment options);
2) Premium paint selection;
3) Rims;
4) The "Sport" Option (0 to 60 in 4.xx seconds) that Elon Must keeps referring to;
5) "Executive," and "Premium" interior - similar to the Roadster

Long story short: most of these options I would select regardless. So, if you would choose these options, it really comes down to putting down another $35K.

If you, like @David70, question the range, charging infrastructure or other "fundamental" aspects of the technology/experience, do not upgrade and/or do not even reserve a Model S. I do not see the infrastructure catching up to EVs for another 2 or 3 years (my speculation, of course, I may be wrong). More importantly, in 2 or 3 years, you may choose a $30K Model X, which may travel 400+ miles with Panasonic's new version of their 18650A battery due out in 2013.

For me, I had $35K and can't wait until 2015 for this technology. But, that's me...

I am with MichiganModels, I have been waiting for an electric car for 40 years and finally see a "real" car that happens to be electric. The earliest Roadster owners had a great deal when they bought. Of course there were issues and will be issues with the early Model S. The only part that I doubt is #4 above.

It's all speculation unfortunately. I don't really know what battery pack I will choose yet. If the performance of the 160 pack is close to that of the 300 pack, I really don't know if I need the 300 mile pack.

I think in the end the only thing the signature series will offer over a 300 mile version will be quicker delivery and maybe a discount as opposed to buying the options on non sig cars. The problem is you might not need/want the options included. There is no incentive for an automaker to offer exclusive options on 1500 cars when they could also sell those options on the rest of the production series to help their bottom line.

@qwk

I agree that most of (if not all) is speculation. I was responding to @DavidM. I prefer not to conjecture (I'm the guy that records actual data :-) ).

One other point: I'm not saying that Tesla is "offering exclusive options on 1,500 cars." Rather, I believe Telsa is fully loading the first 1,500 cars and stamping "Signature Series" on these cars. I believe whatever options come "standard" in the Signature Series can/will be possible to have in a General Production Model S (without the "Signature Series" engraving, of course).

And clearly Tesla's incentive to fully load the first 1,500 (including a 300 mile battery) is obvious from every perspective (financial, marketing, branding, public perception, etc., etc.).

Hopefully that clarified my point(s).

Just gave up P73 for an upgrade to S280 here in the US.

Hi michiganmodels
Have you the delivery time on the R1-R218?

I have a signature model s on reserve, # 279, in Utah, America!

@nilsjohanf - I'm unclear of the R1-R218, but I did receive some delivery news this weekend (read below).

@gkimmcgary - Congrats! Only 11 months to go (read below).

I just returned from The Berkshire Hathaway shareholder meeting in Omaha Nebraska (I'm a Class B shareholder, not a Class A Shareholder). To my surprise, Tesla allowed shareholders to test drive Roadsters during the meeting in the Marriott hotel parking lot. After the meeting, I stopped by the Marriot and spoke with the two Tesla reps (one was from Colorado and the other from Chicago). They both lit up when I told them I reserved Signature #249 (they were also delighted to see me sporting my Tesla Track Jacket at the Berkshire Hathaway Meeting-for those who do not know, Berkshire Hathaway purchased a significant holding in BYD, a Chinese automotive company that is/will manufacture EVs). Unsolicited, the Colorado rep told me and I quote, "at S249, you'll get your car in early April." I responded that Jerome Gillian quoted March 2011 deliveries begin.* So, for those interested when deliveries actually start: I've been told S249 will be early April 2012.

If I had to wager on the timeline, it would be as follows (this is my educated guess only):
2011 1st Quarter: Release Alpha Build, Alpha testing begins.
2011 2nd Quarter: Alpha testing concludes at quarter end.
2011 3rd Quarter: Release Beta Build, Beta testing begins.
2011 4th Quarter: Beta Testing concludes quarter end. Announce Model X, accept reservations.
2012 1st Quarter: Model S production begins. Model S Signature delivery begins at quarter end.
2012 2nd Quarter: Model S Signature delivery / Model S General Production delivery begins.

@Michigan

Just curious about you being a stock member, I earlier this year bought some also, I doubt I have enough invested to be recognized, so my question is what is a class B stock holder?
